A Hair Dye Disaster
It all started with a Blonde (613) Wig and a bottle of pastel pink hair dye. My vision of having a soft pink hairdo was so pure. Oh so original! I just knew it would look so girly, and edgy. Only there was one major pitfall: Things didn’t turn out that way.๐
By things I mean the hair color, that ended up becoming a thing, I have no experience in. By the way, if you happen to have any tips or suggestions please comment them.๐
Okay, so first, I achieved the soft pastel pink color I wanted. As you could imagine this set me off to thinking ‘hey, this is more easier than it seems’. My next step went to applying the wig. (I choose to use wigs because I don’t want to bleach and damage my hair EVER AGAIN!) Upon applying the wig it looked absolutely horrendous!! I looked like a unicorn trying to be a pony ๐
Maybe that isn’t the greatest analogy but it just didn’t fit. I FaceTime’d my husband and he had no comment. He asked ‘why I just put the wig on my head’, and I asked, ‘what do you mean that’s how you’re supposed to wear it. ๐ He then asked if I could style it to look better. And I thought oh hunny there is no styling that could make this right. ๐ฉ So it was back to the drawing board.
Instead of buying a different color I thought maybe the color just needs some toning. Thanks to google, I learned that you can achieve a certain color or look by using purple shampoo.
My apologies in advance for not taking pictures throughout the different colors achieved.
The purplish, pink pastel color I turned the wig was pretty. Nothing more than that. Just pretty to look at.
You might be sensing a lack of contentment but I just knew I had to color this wig and try something new. I haven’t done anything out of the ordinary in quite sometime. And thats what this little project meant to me, trying something out of the ordinary. You know, now that I’m a mom I have to be a bit less crazy with spontaneity, however making it a matter has a lot to do with upholding my individuality.
Now that we’re getting to the bottom of things, I realized I didn’t know what I was doing when the purple shampoo started to turn parts of my lavender wig baby blue. Not sure why that happened but hey what do I know ๐ One thing I do know IiiSS: rule of thumb-when all else fails just dye it black. That I did, and the color went to a dark purple with light blue streaks. Such a look just wasn’t gonna work. Along with the pink roots sticking out like a sore thumb. Forget about it! When my sisters got wind and got to see the concoction on top of my head, I got all negative reactions. My youngest sister’s only words were “NO SIS ”
Boy did that settle in. As in NO Lin, what are you doing! Just when I literally gave up and decided to try and get the wig to its original color by beaching it. I ended up with this.

Honestly speaking, this is not the color I expected and probably not something I would ask for but it’s my disastrous outcome. Wanna know something? I’m keeping it. I’ll take it! It’s not always what you have but what you make of it ๐๐๐ฅณ๐ค
and that my frienDs is the moral of the story ๐
Its not always the cards you are dealt but how you deal!
